How many of you purchase your own classroom rugs? I DO! and a whole lotta you do too from what I’ve read on blogs! With more and more schools ripping out carpet and going to tile, rugs are a must! So I want to share my excitement about KidCarpet.com!
Over the past three years (since we had our original carpets removed at school) I’ve purchased…1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6…RUGS for my classroom! Why? Because I’ve purchased rugs from Target (good, but small and dirty quickly due to quality) IKEA (don’t last and aren’t large enough) and even outdoor rugs (lasted, but the serging frayed by December and are covered in duct tape).
So this summer I was on the hunt for a REAL classroom rug. But oh my gosh, they are so expensive. Unfortunately, my school only provides rugs for our Pre-K and Kinder classes. Not that I blame them seeing as how they are paying upwards of $500 apiece. STICKER SHOCK!
and this is for what I’d consider a small rug!
My school just doesn’t have those kinds of funds. I knew I needed to hold off on frivolous purchases and invest in a lasting rug.
So I searched online (Ok, I asked my bloggy friends) about a good quality rug! More than one sent me straight to KidCarpet.com!
First, The prices are way discounted! The rugs are actually factory-direct. I’m not trying to sound like a commercial, but it really does make a difference in the price! I happen to live in the furniture capital of the world! I’m cool like that…
and second, the selection is HA-UGE! There was a ton of choices from fun and silly, to neutral tones.
So, I decided on a pretty gray chevron because I knew it would match the extremely bright colors of my classroom walls and it would match my colors! It also comes in their popular bright blue!
>>WHY RUGS ARE A MUST
A rug is a great accessory to have no matter where it’s placed. Rugs are style and color to your existing theme. I love placing a door mat at my classroom door or the door to the closet. It makes everyone feel more welcome and my room feel homey. Teachers and students alike can enjoy and use it every day. There are many different benefits to having a rug in an elementary school classroom.
>>The Rug Means Business
I know in my classroom, getting to come to the rug is a privilege. If you act silly, you go back to your seat. When we are at the rug, we are paying attention to the speaker. By having a rug in the classroom, you have a better chance of gaining and keeping the attention of students. By nature, children are drawn to bright and interesting things. A classroom rug can certainly serve as that element for children when they are in the classroom. Allowing students to sit on a rug for certain activities is a great incentive too. Getting to sit on our rug during seatwork is one of my VIP Table rewards, too! And boy do kids love that!
Rugs are obviously more comfortable than sitting on the cold, hard floor. The simple fact that a child is comfortable means that he or she is more likely to be able to focus, rather than fidgeting. And of course, the fun of sitting on the floor makes anything more memorable because it’s a change of routine.
>>You Can LEARN from a rug!
Classroom rugs can come in a variety of colors and sizes. There are seating rugs perfect for management, animal theme rugs, Montessori rugs, and even alphabet rugs or map rugs that teachers can choose from. By placing rugs in the classroom that have letters or numbers on them, you can use the rug as a teaching aid, in addition to its function as a comfortable floor covering. Oh, and don’t forget these awesome GAME rugs! Inside recess heaven!
A classroom rug can also be used during recess/play time. Play time is significant for younger children; not only does it help with socialization, but also with the mental development occurring at that young age. Activity rugs can help keep children occupied and reduce the amount of running around in the classroom. During play time, children can play with toys on the play rug. Or if the school has a required reading period during the school day, you can use the rug as the place where storytime takes place daily.
>>If you can think it, they’ve got it!
After browsing the site, I could not believe all the options I found! A few that really made me smile were the campfire rug (S’mores anyone?) Can you imagine getting to sit on this!?
the silly seats rug (this was my son’s favorite!)
and the grassy green rug! I really love this one! It looks so real!
As you can see, Kid Carpet has it all!
So much in fact, I begged them to allow me to pass on the savings to y’all!
And boy did they come through! Rather than just ONE winner, we decided it would be awesome to allow THREE winners to get a BIG discount! After the discount, you’ll only be paying what you’d pay at Target or Walmart and get not only a large rug, but a rug that’s made for kid wear and tear! This WILL NOT be a rug you have to toss next June!
I also love supporting companies that so strongly support teachers. One glance at Kid Carpet’s Facebook page will show you how much they appreciate and empower our profession.
