It’s no secret that I love Day of the Dead. It’s a visually beautiful holiday full of meaning. Those sugar skulls! And after Halloween, it’s my favorite!
Each year I search for products to make this holiday fun and meaningful to my students. This year I was thrilled to find some gorgeous stuff at my favorite holiday go-to, Oriental Trading!
In fact, not only is there a wide variety, there’s an entire section of the website! And… don’t forget your Ebates while you’re there (shameless affiliate plug)
Here’s a few ideas for you to use in your classroom!
Sugar Skull Frames
I have always loved all the foam frames from Oriental Trading and was so excited to see they added this sugar skull one! My students are bringing in a photo of a loved one who has died and we will be adding it to the magnetic frame. Not only will this make a wonderful writing opportunity, the frame will become a keepsake for the families.
This fun foam activity features colorful flowers and sugar skulls and has a place for a special celebration photo. It’s a fun arts and crafts class activity as you teach children the importance of this fascinating cultural holiday. Includes magnets and self-adhesive foam pieces. 6 3/4″ x 5″ with a 4″ x 2 1/2″ photo space. Each pack makes 12, so I had one to use for our pup aka, our first child!

Skull Plastic Eggs
Who doesn’t love an egg hunt!? Aren’t these precious! I’ll be adding math questions inside and hiding around our media center, but you could use anything! Add pictures from an old book order and have students identify the genre, fiction or informational. Add a roam the room or classroom hunt resource you already own and step the hunting up a notch. Rather than hanging the questions around the room, hide them inside these eggs!
Eggs aren’t just for Easter anymore! A must-have Halloween party favor for all your lil’ monsters, these Skull Eggs are sure to get everyone to crack a smile. Fill these little eggheads with Halloween sweets and toys and drop in treat bags for happy ghouls and boys. Set your Halloween scene and fill a tall glass jar with these Skull Eggs for a simply spooktacular Halloween decorating idea, no bones about it! You get 36 eggs total!
Tissue Paper Skulls
We always decorate calaveras with markers and glitter to display on our door, but this year I thought the tissue paper calaveras would look perfect hanging in the windows! ANother plus, no copies!
Our ELL department is doing a presentation with each grade level on November 2, and these will hang in the windows of the media center. They are going to be perfect! My favorite feature is the slightly glittery foam!
Includes self-adhesive foam pieces, acetate sheets and satin cording. 8 1/4″ x 9 1/2″ Makes 12!
I hope you’ve found something to love today! Feliz Días de Los Muertos!
