Today Michael Phelps is racing a shark…and so begins Shark Week 2017!
Throughout this week, I am co-hosting a little freebie frenzy (get it…like feeding frenzy…) with my girl Alisha from The Bubbly Blonde Teacher. What kid doesn’t love sharks?
This year was the 2nd year I did a Shark Week in my classroom. We used lots of ideas from Pinterest and from Rooted in Reading. Shark Week was actually the last RIR unit we did this year and it was probably their favorite!
Let’s start with food, my personal favorite thing.
These Jell-O cups from Oh My Creative are super simple and I know gelatin is something my students will eat!
Classroom Decor Ideas
Before I ever start with a big themed week, I have to set the stage so to speak. Do some simple things like putting this awesome Shark Bite Wreath on your door (all from the Dollar Tree I might add) is the perfect way to get them excited when they walk in!
I always cover my little nook in my classroom entry with bulletin board paper for Bat Week, and I am loving this door from Jennifer at First Grade Blue Skies for Shark Week!
and why not throw up an ocean backdrop for some photo ops?! I found this one for less than $10 on Amazon and Party City carries them as well, but not this cheap.
Now onto to some academics.
Amy always shares great ideas. This STEM activity was a hit this year. She did a little twist on an old favorite and had the kids build a contraption to keep Sammy the Deal safe from the sharks!
We also used this shark length graphing activity I created. Two years ago I participated in a Shark Week blog hop and there’s lots of freebies! So check that out!
My students always love cards and card games. This is a free Shark Memory game also from Dollar Store Crafts. Just print and go!
And here’s a Shark Matching game using shark figurines from Pinay Homeschooler. My kids have these laying around the house, but if you ask your students, I bet they have some to bring in! I always get lots of shark and dino figures!
Well, there’s the 8 ideas I promised, but follow along all week on Instagram for freebies! Search #sharkweekfreebiefrenzy on Teachers Pay Teachers and follow my Pinterest board too! I’ll be pinning away for next June with my students!
Would you like to join in on Shark Week Freebie Frenzy? Here’s deets and images you can use!
add your freebies to either of the next two images to share on social media! I use PowerPoint, open the image and layer it on top!
