The number one complaint I hear about Macs are that fonts do not show up when you are working in PowerPoint. It’s not just PowerPoint, but all Office programs because who makes Office-Microsoft! Not Apple! If you work on a Mac and use Office, you have font probs. I love my Mac (and I’ll never go back) but it is frustrating when my list of fonts is about an eighth of what I have installed! It is also a bother to type in a certain font I want to use let alone trying to remember what the name of the font is!
So I have 3 fixes for you. I have used both. One worked sorta and the other works most of the time; though neither is a complete fix! And the third option I just can’t even.
Fix #1 that sorta worked
Alisha from The Bubbly Blonde shared this with me and it seems to work for a lot of people!
Here’s the steps!
system preferences in the apple menu>accessibility>check reduce transparency
Why this works? no clue!
and it did not work for me every time. The first time I did it, some fonts that were not showing up in my font menu now were, but others disappeared!
Fix #2 that usually works
Perform a safe reboot of your Mac!
restart (and hold down SHIFT key as soon as the screen goes away! this is important!)
you can let go of the shift key when your login prompt pops up!
login-there will be losts of flashing and stuff, this is normal
and wait because this takes awhile
once your desktop loads, start powerpoint. You will see it state that your font files are being udated!
after PowerPoint loads, close it out and restart your computer normally
Why this works? Again, no clue but it seems to be a clean start for my Mac.
and while all my font categories now appear, not every font always does. But A LOT more do!
For example, I have 74 Cara Carroll fonts installed, but in PowerPoint only the NEWEST ones are showing, whereas prior to the safe reboot only the OLD ones were showing…head scratcher.
Option #3 I can’t
When all else fails and you just want to use the beautiful fonts you have purchased, breakdown and use Keynote! I tried and have made a few things in it, but I really feel it is missing some very key elements. I’ve used PowerPoint since I was a kid so it’s hard to learn something new! However it does have perks like being able to SEE all your fonts and saving hyperlinks in a pdf…another missing option in Office for Mac.
So until either Microsoft makes Office better or until Apple makes Keynote just like PowerPoint, I will continue using options 1-3 over and over!
and one last thing because I have been asked since I posted this on Instagram!
I create collections for my fonts so I do not have to scroll forever and a day to find them. I have a collection for each designer I buy bundles from then some random ones for fonts I grab from Creative Market or big bundles from Font Hippo!
